Keystone

The Keystone is a simple digital device that is used to determine the level of orthotic support needed to reduce patient symptoms. Ideally the practitioner can prescribe the minimum amount of support to reduce symptoms. This is key to successful outcomes.

Minimal arch height also means less change in the existing biomechanics. It also leads to an increase in patient comfort and compliance as well as increasing the ability to fit orthotics into a broader range of footwear.

Previously, a clinician would place two fingers under the posterior part of arch and supinate the foot. Depending on how they perceived this, they would clinically ‘guess’ at the level of support needed from a foot orthotic. The Keystone can be used to better quantify this; a low arch or flexible orthotic is prescribed for a LOW reading and a high arch orthotic (or increased rear foot wedging or stiffer orthotic material) is prescribed for a HIGH reading. Using the Keystone these readings can now be shared and discussed objectively between practitioners.
